From data entry to decision making: Lily’s rise at Richglen
Lily Utley, 21, is making her mark in the Richglen warehouse, driven by hard work and a go-getter attitude.
At Richglen, we’re all about backing our people and creating opportunities – and Lily Utley is a great example of that. Starting out as a warehouse storeperson, Lily, 21, has worked her way to leading hand by stepping up and taking on challenges. Here’s a look at what drives her, and what life at Richglen is like.
Lily’s career at Richglen began when she landed a storeperson role in 2022. She demonstrated a strong work ethic, stepping up whenever there were gaps in management, and over time she took on additional responsibilities. By the end of last year, her hard work paid off – she was offered a leading hand position with on-the-job training.
“I like learning new skills and gaining knowledge, so it made sense to take on the role.”
“I like learning new skills and gaining knowledge, so it made sense to take on the role,” Lily said. Her time management, organisation, and communication skills have been key to Lily succeeding in her new position.
Finding Her Place at Richglen
Great mates and father-daughter duo, Nigel and Lily Utley, work together at Richglen.
Lily initially joined Richglen to help her dad, Nigel – Richglen’s supply and logistics coordinator – with data entry and paperwork. She loved the team and the environment and decided to stay.
Lily says it’s the people she most enjoys about working at Richglen. Working alongside her dad has also been a great experience. “Dad and I have always worked well together, even at home,” she said.
As a leading hand, no two days are the same. Mondays and Fridays are usually the busiest, with last-minute requests and urgent needs from the team. The biggest downside? The North Queensland heat! If she could change one thing about her job, it would be working in a cooler environment.
When it comes to the future, Lily is keeping her options open. She envisions possibly spending six months living in Europe or America, but professionally, she hopes to continue growing within Richglen, whether in her current role or something new.
Words of Wisdom
For those just starting at Richglen, Lily’s advice is: “Ask questions! Better to ask 50 questions than make 50 mistakes.”
She’s also learned something important about herself while working at Richglen – she thrives on responsibility and enjoys learning new things and teaching others.
Lily describes Richglen as expanding, challenging and welcoming.
